Invisibles – The Scars of Leprosy in Brazil

At the end of 2005, only nine countries in the world had not yet eliminated leprosy as a public health problem. Among them, Brazil stands out with the second largest number of cases, only after India, and in first place if the incidence of the illness in the population is considered.

 

At Antonio Diogo Leprosarium, life conditions are extremely precarious: there is a generalised lack of food, medicines, bandages and money to pay for doctors and nurses.
