Invisibles –
The Scars of Leprosy in Brazil
At
the end of 2005, only nine countries in the world had not yet eliminated leprosy
as a public health problem. Among them, Brazil stands out with the second largest
number of cases, only after India, and in first place if the incidence of the
illness in the population is considered.
At Antonio Diogo Leprosarium, life conditions are extremely precarious: there
is a generalised lack of food, medicines, bandages and money to pay for doctors
and nurses.
