Some of these abandoned communities still live under this veil of political and social irresponsibility, as human evidences of a tragedy perpetrated by our own fear and ignorance.
Braulino Alves de Lima, 63 years old, confined at the Leprosarium of Antonio Aleixo in 1954, by the age of 11.
Anselmo Coelho, about 30 years old, lives in a slum in the outskirts of the deactivated Bonfim Leprosary.

 

Olavo Barradas Alho, 86 years old, lost contact with all his family after confinement in the Santo Antonio do Prata Leprosarium in 1931, by the age of 10.
