However there are plans in place to improve the area and there may be hope for
this once popular suburb, now largely in a state of decay. It has become a challenge
for the new government to resolve the problems that are occurring and make the
living conditions for the local people there more desirable. Spearheaded by
the Inner – City Regeneration Task Team (ICRTT), several projects have
been established. This involves the regeneration of roads, sidewalks, infrastructure,
storm – water drains, traffic lights and road signs which are all receiving
urgent attention to revamp Hillbrow

Certain
buildings which are considered illegally used or are in need of serious repair
are being raided by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, the South
Africa Police Service, the South African National Defence Force, Home Affairs
and Wozani Security – known as the red ants. The task team was set up
by the City of Johannesburg to oversee the regeneration of the inner city, which
aims to revive the city centre and create a clean and safe district, which in
return will attract business back to the area.
