In
September of 2004 Coryn Lord won the Little Queen title at the Jackson Apple
Festival. In April 2005 on her birthday she was diagnosed with Leukemia. Coryn
is in the process of a miraculous recivery with the help of her parents, Lee
and Cathy Lord, her friends and the community of Jackson, Ohio.
On
April 12th 2005 Coryn Lord was supposed to be celebrating her 6th birthday.
She had been crowned Little Apple Queen in the small rural town of Jackson,
Ohio in September and was enjoying her reign when small bruises appeared all
over her legs and arms. Her mother, Cathy, joked that she ought to bring Coryn
to the doctor before someone called family services on them.
The visit to their family doctor turned into an emergency trip to Children's
hospital in Columbus when their family doctor noticed an enlarged spleen and
abnormal blood counts. Coryn was diagnosed with acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
and was hospitalized for the next 10 days while she clung to life fighting the
disease that was trying to kill her.
Six months later while undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatments Coryn completed
her duties as the Little Apple Queen, passing on her crown to the next Little
Queen.
Now, 26 months later Coryn is poised to have her final chemotherapy treatment
on July 27, 2007..
