Paulie checks his bet results in the newspaper. Having just retired, he closed his restaurant around the corner and now spends much of his time at the club.

Aged 75 and up, the members have built the club around
30 year-old friendships. They have become family, and quite
obviously so: almost all are bachelors, most never married.

A few are widowers. Yet, few of their own relatives ever trespass these grounds, allowing these elderly gentlemen to quietly keep to their activities.
