1) A memorial to Stalin in Medjheshevi. This village, 30 Km away from Stalin’s birthplace, has suffered considerably since the collapse of the Soviet Union with the lack of investment and exodus, but surprisingly an old statue of Stalin that had been scraped has been recovered and recently placed in the main square; 2) the World War II, "the great patriotic war", dominated the Soviet Union’s life; the fact that this frame with pictures of victims of that war was left to deteriorate exemplifies the loss of traditional values; 3) Post office: people still come to work, but there is nothing to do. Services have long ago collapsed; on the wall, an image of Stalin - a local hero.
But the disappearing Georgian village is not just the story of rural migration and urban re-settlement. It is also about the loss of culture, traditions and the impoverishment of language, poetry and even spirituality.
