A woman collapses during the memorial service for a man who lost 18 members of his family during the Tsunami. Mulativu, January 2005.

The Tsunami hit hard the Tamil Tiger controlled areas: 20.000 people died and more than 150.000 are displaced. In the Mulativu province, a heavily militarised area with naval bases and training camps hidden in the jungle, rumours say that as many as 800 Tamil Tiger rebels were killed. The LTTE reacted very quickly building refugee camps and distributing food and medicines. Being in war for so many years they were prepared for this kind of situations. Many Tamil families have food and other necessities hidden, being always prepared for the case of an emergency.
