First Landing Point

In 2004 over ten thousand illegal immigrants landed on Sicily's shores. The majority left Italy illicitly, however many of them have been housed in the reception centres in Trapani, Siracusa and Palermo and have applied for asylum.

Forgotten by the government of the host country, they are left waiting for a residence permit with many vivid memories of the horrible voyage they went through in order to reach the first landing point, i.e a deserted shore or a solitary cove along the coastline of Sicily.

They wait inside the reception centres, in poor hygienic conditions, hoping to be granted the permits that will give them the opportunity to find a job and begin a normal life. The life they have been dreaming of since they left their homeland.
