Gracanica just 10 minutes drive from Pristina, seems like an ordinary Kosovan village. With between 8,000 - 10,000 inhabitants it is the largest of the Serb village enclaves. Except for the surrounding Serb villages, the majority of the Serbs from Gracanica have not been able to go anywhere without Kfor protection since June 1999. This lack of freedom of movement is their biggest problem. Although there have been few major attacks in the last year, there are constant small incidents, mainly aimed at intimidating the Serbs to leave. Many have left selling their land to Albanians.
Left:soldiers at the entrance to Gracanica. Right: Zoran Kostic (right) looks tired and confused, he has just shown a group of fellow villagers from Preoce around his small outhouse which partly burned the previous night destroying his tractor. "First there was a tank mine on the road, 2 years ago, when Kfor arrived, after that two cows were stolen, then the tractor was stolen, then my neighbour's tractor was stolen, now this happens?"
